Haw River Access
The Highway 54 Canoe Access point is owned by the Graham Recreation & Parks Department.
The access point is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. It allows for easy access to the Haw River for canoe or kayaks and is handicapped accessible.
The access point is located south of Interstate 85 / 40 on Highway 54. Before crossing the Haw River, turn to the right to enter.
This section of the Haw River leads to Swepsonville and then on to Saxapahaw.
There are two hazards to be aware of during a trip to Saxapahaw:
1. There is a dropped bridge that now has created a dam at Boywood Road in Swepsonville. This dam is small and is easily maneuvered around to the right, or in high water levels it may be run.
2. The second hazard is a large (8 foot) dam across from Southwick golf course. This dam will require exit and re-entry. After the second hazard, the river widens and has no rapids. The take out on this section will be the hydro-dam in Saxapahaw.
