The City of Graham Appearance Commission is an advisory board appointed by the City Council. The Commission is charged with promoting, planning, advising and encouraging the citizens of Graham to participate in providing for an appreciation of aesthetic values.  The Appearance Commission works to add a new project each year that will result in an improvement to the city, raise awareness within the Graham community and encourage hands-on participation of local service organizations, church groups, schools, business owners and residents.

Residents interested in serving on The Graham Appearance Commission are invited to submit an application for consideration. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Graham Municipal Building, 201 South Main Street.  Members serve a three-year term.  All meetings are open to the public.

Graham Rocks! Scavenger Hunt

The Graham Appearance Commission is excited to announce that it has developed a new scavenger hunt program for families to enjoy. The goal of this initiative is to encourage people to get outdoors and explore the beautiful city of Graham. Organizations in Graham will be invited to paint a medium sized rock. The Appearance Commission will hide the rocks within a designated area and provide clues about the location of each painted rock. In addition to the design painted by each organization, there will be words on each rock and when all of the rocks are found the combined words will spell out a sentence. Each scavenger hunt will have a different theme.

How to Play:

Clues:

The City of Graham will post a list of clues on its Website and Facebook pages about the location of each of the painted rocks. Once you have successfully solved the clue and found the rock you will need to write down the word/s painted on it. In order to complete the scavenger hunt participants must find all 5 five rocks; by combining the words from each rock in the order of the clues participants will reveal a short message the Appearance Commission wants to share with the community.

The first scavenger hunt will run for 5 months and there will be one winner per month. Winners will be selected via random drawing. The winners will receive a prize pack (all items are donated so all winners may not receive the same items). Participants who complete the challenge and want a chance to win a prize pack may submit their contact information along with the message on the rocks in order to be entered into the drawing.

There are three easy ways to enter to earn prizes for completing the Scavenger Hunt…

1. Email the sentence formed by the words on each of the rocks to [email protected] with the Subject AC Rocks – Scavenger Hunt and include your name and phone number.

2. Drop by City Hall to submit a completed Scavenger Hunt form with participant contact information along with the sentence on the rocks.

3. Mail a completed Scavenger Hunt form to the Attn: Planning, P.O. Drawer 357, Graham, NC 27253

If selected as a winner you will be contacted. Prizes may be picked up at location TBD.

The deadline for each submission will be prior to the third Monday of the month. Drawings will be done at the Appearance Commission meeting the third Monday of the month at 6:30 PM in Council Chambers. Submissions are due by 4PM on the following dates in order to be entered for that months drawing:

If not selected your name will remain eligible for selection in subsequent months prize drawings.
