DESCRIPTION:City of Graham Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration \nSunday\, December 5\, 2021\nTime: 5:00pm – 7:30pm\, tree lighting ceremony begins at 6:30pm (fireworks will follow the lighting of the tree)\nFor All Ages\nCost: Free\nLocation: Graham’s City Hall • 201 South Main Street\, Graham\, NC 27253 \nJoin the City of Graham for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting tradition at City Hall. \nThis special tree that we light is a Fraser Fir\, a native evergreen tree that grows on moist\, cool slopes on top of the highest of the Appalachian Mountains in the Southeastern United States and can grow to 30 to 50 feet tall. It came to us from Alamance County Cooperative Extension in the fall of 2012. When this tree needed to be removed from their property\, the Cooperative Extension reached out to the City of Graham to be its new home. It was too large to dig up ourselves\, so we brought in a 90” tree spade on a truck to move it for us. DESCRIPTION:The Graham Sanitation division will start loose-leaf collection on the fourth Monday in October through February 4\, 2022.  Residents are encouraged to use the City’s loose-leaf collection service\ndue to landfill disposal regulations.  Residents are to place all leaves 5 ft.  behind the curb or on the shoulder of the streets by 7 a.m. Leaves should not be piled in drainage ditches or over water meters. \nFollow these guidelines to ensure a successful loose-leaf collection.\n• Pile only leaves. Check that there are no rocks\, sticks\, trash\, grass\, or other material in your leaves.\n• Only leaves on road frontage can be removed.\n• Please do not impede stormwater flow.\n• Reminder only loose leaves will be collected! \nCollecting your leaves and placing them in bags or containers are prohibited. DESCRIPTION:Graham Walks Fall 2021\n\nRegister Online September 22 – October 20\nProgram Dates: October 13 – November 17\, 2021 (5 weeks)\nAges: 18 & up\nCost: Free\, registration is required\n\nGraham Walks began in 2006 with a grant from the Health and Wellness Trust Fund. Graham Recreation & Parks wishes to continue to gain new interest in the program and encourages past participants to join us once again this fall. Graham Walks is a 5-week\, self-motivating walking program designed to inspire you to stay active. We encourage participants to not only walk but to be active overall! Set a goal and track your activity on the Activity Tracker Log. We encourage all participants to set their own goal rather it is to set aside 30 minutes a day (or more) to be active or track your steps per day…you decide!\n\nFollowing the 5 weeks\, all participants that turn in their completed Activity Tracker Log by the deadline will be eligible to receive a Graham Walks t-shirt\, as well as be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing (one per person). Prizes will be provided by Community Sponsors.\n\nGrand Prize Drawings will be announced LIVE on the Graham Recreation & Parks Facebook page following the program on Monday\, November 22 (time: TBD). Participants will meet at the Graham Recreation Center and be transported on the activity bus to the tour location and back to the center when completed. The walking tour will experience uneven surfaces while walking in the dark\, as well as part of the tour on a bus. Please wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and bring a flashlight and water. Restrooms will be available at the Recreation Center only. Admission is free\, but seating is limited\, and registration is required. The Graham Historical Museum was built in 1911 and served as the Graham’s Fireman’s Building…so come sit alongside Graham’s firemen and the 1930 Seagrave fire truck for interactive education about fire safety while we take a look at the past and present Graham Fire Department. Families will participate in lessons about fire safety in the home\, smoke alarms vs. carbon monoxide alarms\, how to create an escape plan\, when to call 9-1-1\, and more. Be sure to snap a special photo with the firetruck and Charlie the Firehouse Dog while you are there! Families will also get a special tour of a firetruck then and now. Admission is free\, but seating is limited\, and registration is required for the children participating in the program. Online registration is available through October 8\, as space allows.
