This year’s theme will revolve around the Civil War era/involvement\, soldiers’ burial places\, enslaved peoples’ burials/markers\, and the location of the graves of local politicians of the period. Participants will meet at the Graham Recreation Center and be transported on the activity bus to the tour location and back to the center when completed. The walking tour will experience uneven\, natural surfaces\, as well as part of the tour on a bus. Please wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and bring water. Restrooms will be available at the Recreation Center only. Admission is free\, but seating is limited\, and registration is required. Pontoon is scheduled to leave the dock promptly at the listed start time for an approx. 45-minute ride. \nEvery participant must wear a PFD/life jacket while participating in this program. The smallest PFD available at the lake is rated for youth 30lbs-50lbs. If your child wishes to participate in this program but weighs less than 30lbs\, you must bring an appropriately sized Type I\, II\, or III\, Coast Guard approved PFD. All children must have adult supervision during this program. Please no smoking/vaping\, alcohol\, pets\, drones\, or fishing from the boat. \nInclement Weather Updates: Changes in the schedule and/or cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on the Graham Recreation & Parks Facebook page or you may call Graham-Mebane Lake at (919) 563-6544. Pontoon rides will not operate in the case of rain or thunder/lightning. There are no rain dates scheduled – only refunds or rescheduling for inclement weather cancellations. \nSpace is limited. Online registration will close at 5:00pm on the day before the scheduled pontoon rides or when full. If space allows\, walk-ups will be accepted on the day of the program. It came to us from Alamance County Cooperative Extension in the fall of 2012. When this tree needed to be removed from their property\, the Cooperative Extension reached out to the City of Graham to be its new home. Poems can be submitted by email (arbordayingraham@gmail.com) or dropped off at the Graham Recreation Center and City Hall (during operational hours) beginning April 1 and will be due no later than April 30. Young poets are asked to turn on their creativity and “write a poem about a tree(s)”. \nParticipants must live in Alamance County and include the poet’s name and grade\, parent/guardian’s name\, phone number\, email\, and city on the back of the submission. One submission per person is allowed. The City of Graham Appearance Commission & Tree Board will choose the three winners at their May meeting (05/06). Following the Arbor Day Poem Contest\, all poems will be on display on the Arbor Day in Graham webpage.
