The smallest PFD available at the lake is rated for youth 30lbs-50lbs. If your child wishes to participate in this program but weighs less than 30lbs\, you must bring an appropriately sized Type I\, II\, or III\, Coast Guard approved PFD. All children must have adult supervision during this program. Please no smoking/vaping\, alcohol\, pets\, drones\, or fishing from the boat. \nInclement Weather Updates: Changes in the schedule and/or cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on the Graham Recreation & Parks Facebook page or you may call Graham-Mebane Lake at (919) 563-6544. This year’s theme will revolve around the Civil War era/involvement\, soldiers’ burial places\, enslaved peoples’ burials/markers\, and the location of the graves of local politicians of the period. Participants will meet at the Graham Recreation Center and be transported on the activity bus to the tour location and back to the center when completed. The walking tour will experience uneven\, natural surfaces\, as well as part of the tour on a bus. Please wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes and bring water. Join the Museum as we discuss 100 years of Burlington Industries with Mr. John W. Guss\, Alamance Parks Historic Properties Superintendent. \nBurlington Industries\, which began as Burlington Mills by Mr. James Spencer Love in 1923 grew to become the largest textile manufacturer of its era. At its peak\, Burlington Industries employed more than 80\,000 people in plants located primarily in North Carolina\, South Carolina\, Virginia\, and around the globe. Producing hosiery\, carpets\, tablecloths and linens\, military uniforms\, and equipment\, to Olympic athletic sportswear. Burlington Industries has been an innovative leader in the textile industry. While textile manufacturing in the United States declined dramatically by the 1980s\, Burlington Industries and the well-known Cone Mills of Greensboro merged together to strengthen their brands and keep them viable. Today\, these two famous textile manufacturing brands are currently under the umbrella corporation\, Elevate Textiles. There are manufacturing plants in Burlington and Raeford\, North Carolina\, Greenville and Cordova\, South Carolina\, China\, and Mexico. \nThis program will take place in the outdoor courtyard of the Graham Historical Museum (rain or shine\, we will move indoors in the case of inclement weather). DESCRIPTION:Bank Fishing Catfish Tournaments \nDates: Saturdays – May 20\, June 17\, July 15\, August 12\, 2023\nTime: 8:00pm – Midnight (in August\, times are 7:00pm – 11:00pm)\nAges: For all ages\, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and must be able to cast\, hook a fish\, and reel it in by themselves. Adults may help net a fish.\nCost for Entrants: $15.00 per entrant in each tournament\nCost for Spectators: Free; but spectators shall identify themselves to Lake Staff during the sign-up period or when they arrive\nLocation: Graham-Mebane Lake • 3218 Bason Road\, Mebane\, NC 27302 \nGraham-Mebane Lake sponsors several bank-fishing catfish tournaments each summer. Payout is for the three heaviest catfish caught and weighed at Graham-Mebane Lake during the tournament by three different entrants. (Entrants may weigh as many fish as they like\, but only their heaviest fish will be considered.) All fish must be caught by rod\, line\, and hook at Graham-Mebane Lake during the tournament. There will be a 50/50 drawing during the tournament. This is an alcohol\, tobacco\, and vape-free event. Pets must be leashed with a leash in hand and remain under positive control. Same-day\, in-person signups. Live bait will be available to purchase. Two rods per entrant. The tournament is weather permitting.
