Melody Wiggins graduated from Appalachian State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Administration and a Minor in Business Administration. She served three municipalities as Director of Parks and Recreation over her 35 year career in local government. She retired from the City of Graham in 2017, having served as the Director of Recreation and Parks for over 21 years. During her career with the City of Graham, she successfully secured numerous financial grants and gifts for the City.
She has been an instructor at the UNC School of Government and UNC-Greensboro, as well as a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities throughout North Carolina. She has received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Appalachian State University, the Distinguished Service Award from the NC Parks and Recreation Directors Association, the Meritorious Service Award from the North Carolina Recreation and Park association and the Distinguished Service in Sports Award from the Alamance Sports Development Council.
Melody has also been a referee and umpire in three different sports for 35 years, serving at the highest level of high school and college athletics. This includes numerous post season appearances with five high school championships, eleven post season appearances and one National Championship in the NCAA. She has been recognized by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for Distinguished Service on two separate occasions.
Melody looks forward to being involved in serving the Graham Community and focusing on the continued development and success of the city that she has loved and served.
