COVID-19 Procedures for Athletic Programs – Spring 2021
Graham Recreation and Parks Department (GRPD) would like to thank everyone for their continued patience, support and understanding in allowing us to thoroughly plan for a safe and fun sport experience for all of our young athletes this spring. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, this athletic season will look significantly different than previous ones. We are confident that we will be able to maintain our core values of developing each child’s ability, assurance, and desire to participate in sports while adhering to current health recommendations to ensure our program is as safe as possible for all participants.
We will be utilizing a class format (instructional league) rather than traditional league play to allow us more flexibility in delivering a safe and effective program. No games will be played this season however each team is allowed to have game-like scrimmages within their own teams (classes). Your child will participate with the same group of kids – their class – each practice. The format will resemble fall and winter programs. The focus of these classes will be on skill development and the learning fundamentals while adhering to youth sport guidelines set forth by the CDC and NCDHHS. Classes will be no larger than 20 players (unless otherwise specified). If possible, we will have teammates from previous seasons in the same class to assist with comfort and continuity for players. We are in the process of planning schedules, health and safety protocols, and program execution plans. Once everything is finalized, we will provide that information to registered parents and coaches so everyone will have a better understanding of how the different athletic programs will operate this spring.
