Recycling
The City of Graham is currently under contract with Republic Services, Inc. for the collection of recyclables. You will be furnished with a container for the disposal of selected materials. There will be literature with each bin explaining what is collected and also a calendar with schedules. Recyclables will be collected every other week. Your scheduled day of service will be Wednesday. Containers are to be placed at the curb by 7AM. Learn more about recycling.

Garbage
The City runs automated solid waste routes Tuesday thru Friday, you can look at the refuse zone map for your day of service. Please have your can to the street by 7AM on the day of service and remove from the right of way at the end of the day.
Delays in collection of solid waste will be posted on the Homepage and Facebook.
Solid Waste Collection Rules:
- All waste must be within the container.
- Containers should be placed at the curb by 7:00am on your collection day.
- Place containers so that the handles are oriented away from the street at least 5 feet away from vehicles, mailboxes, or other objects.
- Do not place recyclables, electronics or yard debris in your City garbage containers. Click here to view items to throw away and keep out of the recycling bin.
- Containers must be promptly removed from the street following collection.
Yard Waste
The City offers once per week collection of yard waste, collected the same day as your solid waste. Limbs 1 inch or smaller in diameter, hedge trimmings, grass clippings, and similar yard waste needs to be in a Citizen provided yard waste can. Yard waste containers should be no larger than 32 gallons with handles for easy pick-up and weigh less than 50 pounds to facilitate manual dumping. The City will not pick up yard debris from contracted work.
Large limbs and brush should not exceed 10 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length. These limbs should be piled neatly at the edge of road or back of curb. Logs larger than 10 inches and stumps are not serviced. Please be mindful of overhead obstructions.
Yard waste in plastic bags will not be serviced. Yard waste, shall be placed at the curb by 7AM on the day of collection and be well away from the garbage container. The City will collect large limbs and brush up to 3 cubic yards per week. After 3 cubic yards a charge for $16.00 per bite will be accessed.
Bulk Pick-up
The City offers bulk pick-up of items such as white goods, water heaters, and furniture that are too large to fit into solid waste can on a call in basis only. Sanitation does not pick up electronics, construction debris, any liquid, auto parts, or hazardous materials. Items except for hazardous materials can be disposed of at the Alamance County Landfill. Alamance County landfill sponsors hazardous materials collection days, for scheduled events see link below. Bulk Brush
Bulk brush is collected the same day as solid waste. Bulk brush can be no larger than 10 inches in diameter and 6 foot in length. Pile brush neatly at the edge of the road or back of curb for collection, there is a $12.00 charge per Cubic Yard after the first 3 Cubic Yards. Please be mindful of overhead obstructions and pile location that prevents automated collection. The City will not pick up stumps or brush cut by contractors.
The Sanitation Department provides for the weekly collection of residential solid waste, the curbside collection of yard waste, bulk item pickup, street sweeping, and administers the City’s recycling contract.
The City does not collect building materials, stumps, logs larger than 10 inches, yard waste, brush or refuse from contractors, paint, liquids, hazardous waste, tires, auto parts, or any item by the County landfill.

No, the above items are not collected by the Sanitation Department either because they are banned by the Alamance County Landfill or the weight would be prohibitively expensive for the city to provide. Removal of these items is the sole responsibility of the homeowner.

A charge, fixed by the City Council, will be made for hauling tree limbs, cuttings, shrubbery or similar materials. All trimmings shall be cut in six-foot lengths, and placed by the curb. oN tree trimmings will be hauled for commercial tree contractors. No stumps or logs exceeding 50 pounds will be hauled by the Sanitation Department.
Bulk items such as stoves, dryers, refrigerators, mattresses and box springs, washing machines, water heaters, discarded furniture or any items that will not fit in the provided container will be collected on a call in basis only. For bulk items, after the first two items, a fee will be assessed. Call the Sanitation Department to schedule the pickup.
The City offers bulk pick-ups on a call in basis so we can schedule and pick-up items on a route efficiently when we are not running regular routes. We also want to inform residents of what we do and don’t pickup, that items placed at the curb are intended to be picked up by the City and let you know if additional charges may apply.
