Norfolk Southern rail replacement work is underway in Graham.
As of today (9/8), the Pomeroy Street rail crossing is under construction and will remain closed as crews remove the existing rail and replace it with new rail.
Crews are planning to close the Washington Street crossing tomorrow (9/9). We will share updates as we receive them.
Motorists should expect closures, detours, and possible delays in these areas. Please follow posted signage, use caution near work zones, and allow extra travel time.

Rail replacement work is planned for rail crossings in Graham as part of the Carolinian and Piedmont Passenger and Freight Improvements (CAPPFI) project.
Norfolk Southern has completed rail replacement in Mebane and is starting to replace aging rail in Haw River. Crews are estimated to complete 2-3 miles of track per day. We anticipate crews will begin work in Graham by the end of the week.
Local Affected Crossings:
– 23.7-NC Pomery Street
– 23.1-NC Washington Street
– 23.0-NC Private
Closures are expected to last approximately 2-5 days at each crossing as crews install new rail and complete asphalt work. During each closure, no vehicle traffic will be permitted through the affected crossing.
