GPD News Release – Pursuit (update 9.14.20)

On 09/12/2020 at 12:40 a.m. officers responded to a call of multiple gunshots being fired in the area of W Harden St and Oneida St. As they were clearing the call a dark in color dodge passenger car passed one of the officers traveling at an estimated 70 miles per hour. Due to the proximity of the shots fired call it was believed that the vehicle may have been involved. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop resulting in a pursuit. The vehicle continued through Graham and entered the Burlington city limits on S. Sellars Mill Rd. Fifty five seconds after the officer attempted to stop the driver the vehicle traveled north through the intersection of S. Sellars Mill and N. Church St. at a high rate of speed losing control striking a utility pole, multiple trees and a fence before coming to rest. Davonn Bunting, 32 year old male from Graham, was ejected from the car suffering serious injuries. As a matter of standard protocol an internal administrative review about the officers adherence to the Graham Police Department policies related to pursuits is bieng conducted. The Burlington Police Department will be investigating the crash. Further information will be released when it is available.
