Water Quality Preventative Maintenance Program

In a continuing effort to improve water quality, the municipalities listed below will be conducting the Water Quality Preventative Maintenance Program beginning on December 4, 2023 and expected to continue until April 18, 2024.

The Graham-Mebane Water Treatment facility will temporarily change the process of disinfection from the current chloramines to chlorine to optimize water quality in our distribution system. The water will continue to meet federal and state standards for drinking water and is safe for consumption and use.

Municipalities Included:

  • Graham
  • Mebane
  • Green Level
  • Swepsonville

What You Should Expect

During the transition, some users may notice temporary color, taste, and odor differences in their water. This is a normal part of the process; water quality is not affected.

Customers should continue to remove chloramines and chlorine from water prior to use in the kidney dialysis process, fish aquariums and ponds, and with some types of manufacturing practices.

Customers are advised to seek professional advice concerning the removal methods for chlorine and chloramines.

Please contact the Graham-Mebane Water Treatment Facility at 336-578-3264 for additional information.
