GPD News Release – Crash (update 9.23.20)

On September 23, 2020 at about 10:36 PM Graham Police responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 1100 block of E. Harden St (NC54). The crash involved one motor vehicle, a 2000 Ford Ranger, and a pedestrian. The vehicle was occupied by one person. The Ford Ranger was traveling Northwest on E. Harden St. and the pedestrian was lying in the middle of the travel lanes. The pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing and was not able to be immediately seen by the driver of the truck. Once the driver of the truck saw the subject in the road he attempted to take evasive action but did not have time to avoid the subject in the roadway. When Alamance County EMS arrived on scene the pedestrian, John Franklin Burch (White/Male/ 45 years old), was pronounced deceased on scene. There was a witness to the crash that confirmed Burch was lying in the roadway prior to the crash. Alcohol use is suspected to be a contributing factor on John Burch. At this time no charges are expected to be filed.
