On 09/21/2020 a group of demonstrators left the county building after the county commissioners meeting and began walking around court square in downtown Graham. During their walk several small disturbances occurred between the group that was walking and a small group of people who disagree with the other’s message. As a result Ryan Evans, 35 year old male from Burlington NC, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and Eddie Mercer Jr., 71 year old male from Graham NC was cited for simple assault. The investigation into other instances is still ongoing and charges are forthcoming. The incident lasted almost two hours when the groups dispersed without further incident. All police units cleared the area at approximately 09:30 PM.
UPDATE*
As a result of the confrontations on this date Judy Elaine Stuart was also charged with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of simple assault. There are no other charges pending related to this event.
